Choi Credits Nicklaus for Helping Him Find His Game

A superb ball striker if not perfect in English, Choi shot a wonderful 67 on the Memorial Course yesterday to win. This was was the biggest final-round comeback on the PGA Tour this season. His putt for par on the 16th really nailed it down as the tough finishing holes finished off his competitors.

The 37-year-old South Korean broke the language barrier shortly after shattering par, shooting a 7-under 65 to make up a five-stroke deficit to capture the Memorial by a stroke over Ryan Moore.

It  and may end up being a victory celebrated in Asia because it came in the tournament founded by the legendary Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus is a big deal in Korea. So is Choi.

Choi first became acquainted with the game when he was 16 or 17 and a physical education teacher gave him a Jack Nicklaus golf instructional book in Korean. The teacher told him to study the book hard, because golf would be a good profession for him. And it surely has been!
