Having walked the hallowed grounds of Augusta National, I was extermely disappointed in the way the course was setup. So much for Tiger Woods proofing this great course. The first 3 days were a case of eliminating great play since the course was so firm, fast and unfair. As Tiger said, though I paraphrase: “I hit some great shots that just didn’t work out…” The only Tiger proofing a golf course needs is for the other players to be as fit as he is, as smart as he is and as dedicated as he is.

Hopefully seeing that removing birdies from Augusta removed the drama, the Master’s softened the course on Sunday. The greens were actually green. And what followed was more like the Master’s of old. In the course of the round, we found out  that Tiger is indeed human and that other high quality golfers like Zach Johnson are there when the opportunity offers itself.

When Tiger is his normal over the top in gear, he is impossible to beat no matter how long, how fast, how slow, how hard you can make a course. That is the reality of today’s golf. Enjoy it and don’t tinker up golf courses with U.S. Open attitudes. Risk reward yes, unfair greens and run off areas, no.

Give us back the real Master’s where a Sunday 65 can win the tournament.

And congratulations to a deserving Zach Johnson. He played great and deserved to win which I am sure Tiger will be the first to admit.

And to Justin Rose as well. Can you believe he made 3 double bogeys on Sunday and still finished that near to winning. He is one tough guy and I hope he breaks through soon.
